Flight Delays Soar: Which Airlines Are Worst?
28 Feb
Summary
- Frontier Airlines had the highest percentage of delayed flights at 28%.
- American Airlines led with the most cancellations, totaling 28,204 flights.
- Airlines are lobbying to stop the DOT from publishing performance statistics.

Frontier Airlines has emerged as the worst offender for flight delays, with 28% of its flights experiencing significant delays between March and October 2025, based on U.S. DOT data. The low-cost carrier also had one of the highest cancellation rates, affecting 1.58% of its schedule.
JetBlue and American Airlines also feature prominently, with 24.52% and 24.45% of their flights delayed, respectively. American Airlines recorded the highest number of cancellations at 2.07% of its flights. These statistics come as major U.S. airlines have requested the DOT cease publishing performance statistics, a move critics argue could worsen flying conditions for passengers.
Other airlines, including Allegiant and Southwest, also reported substantial delay percentages. While some carriers offer compensation for controllable delays, many low-cost carriers like Frontier and Allegiant have limited policies, often providing only rebooking options or meal vouchers for significant disruptions.
