Woodside Takes Texas Ammonia Plant Helm
26 Mar
Summary
- Woodside Energy assumed control of the Beaumont, Texas ammonia facility.
- The plant has an annual export capacity of 1.1 million tonnes of ammonia.
- Lower-carbon ammonia production is delayed until after 2026.

Woodside Energy officially assumed operational control of the Beaumont New Ammonia facility in Texas. This transition occurred after the completion of performance testing and handover from OCI Global. The facility is a significant addition to Woodside's portfolio, with the capacity to produce and export up to 1.1 million tonnes of ammonia per year. This move aligns with the company's strategic expansion into new energy products.
Ammonia production commenced at the plant in December. However, the timeline for producing lower-carbon ammonia has been revised and is now expected to begin after 2026. This delay is attributed to construction issues encountered at a third-party feedstock supply facility.
The Beaumont project represents a key component of Woodside's strategy to enter the broader ammonia market and develop lower-carbon services. The company is actively advancing offtake agreements linked to the facility's production, having secured initial agreements at prevailing market prices and progressing further sales arrangements.
