West Midlands £2.4bn Transport Fund: Key Projects Reviewed

The future of more than 160 transport projects across the West Midlands is set to be determined in the coming months as the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) reviews its £2.4bn transport funding allocation. Interim chief executive Ed Cox stated that each project will be assessed based on criteria including economic benefits before transparent decisions are made.

Some high-profile schemes have already reached the WMCA board, such as the Metro extension planned for the Sports Quarter and Birmingham City FC's new stadium, alongside investments in Witton and Aston Railway stations to support Aston Villa. Funding commitments will not be made for projects still in their conceptual stages.

A paper outlining the allocation process will be presented to the authority's board in February. Cox expressed hope that by Autumn, a clear evaluation process will be established for every proposed transport project, bringing clarity to the region's infrastructure development.
