2 Dec
Summary
- Websol Energy System signed an MoU with US firm Linton Crystal Technologies.
- The collaboration aims to establish PV ingot and wafer manufacturing in India.
- This move supports India's goal to reduce reliance on imported solar wafers.

Websol Energy System has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Linton Crystal Technologies, a prominent US-based firm specializing in crystal-growing technology. This exploratory partnership signals a significant move towards establishing indigenous manufacturing of PV ingots and wafers within India. The collaboration is poised to involve the acquisition of specialized manufacturing equipment from Linton, along with crucial technical expertise and training.
The initiative directly addresses India's strategic objective to bolster its solar value chain and decrease its reliance on imported raw materials, particularly wafers, where the nation currently depends heavily on Chinese supply. Websol, already a manufacturer of solar cells and modules, aims to build a fully integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem through this backward integration.
While the MoU is exploratory and does not yet represent a binding commitment, it underscores Websol's ambition to enhance its technological base and reduce import dependency. The company operates significant solar cell and module facilities in West Bengal, positioning it to capitalize on India's rapidly expanding solar market.
