Walmart U.S. COO Replaced in Executive Shuffle

Walmart's U.S. operations are undergoing a significant leadership transition as Chief Operating Officer Kieran Shanahan prepares to exit his role this week. His successor will be Kyle Kinnard, a veteran with over 25 years at the retail giant. Kinnard previously served as COO of Walmart International and has held various senior positions, including EVP of health and wellness for Walmart U.S.

These changes are part of a larger strategic overhaul initiated by new companywide CEO John Furner. Under Furner's direction, Walmart has been actively reshaping its senior leadership, appointing new heads for its major business units: U.S., International, and Sam's Club. Recent months have also seen other senior departures, including those who led Sam's Club and U.S. store operations.

The company has also been focusing on growth in its marketplace and delivery sectors, aiming to attract a more affluent customer base. This strategic pivot includes initiatives like reducing prices on select summer items and a recent elimination of 1,000 roles. Shanahan will remain with Walmart as an advisor until January 31, 2027.
