Walmart Upskilling Tech Talent: New Training Hub Launched

Walmart has established a new training hub at the Tulsa Welding School in Decatur, Georgia, as part of its ongoing Associate to Technician program. This initiative aims to reskill local associates for specialized, higher-paying roles within the company.

The program provides free, hands-on instruction in vital trades, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work. It supports Walmart's broader objective of developing 4,000 technicians nationwide by the year 2030. This expansion builds on successful models implemented in Florida, Texas, and Indiana.

To further bolster this effort, Walmart is increasing hourly wages for general maintenance technicians by approximately 40%, adjusting the pay scale to between $26 and $51 per hour. This investment underscores a growing trend among employers to adopt 'earn-and-learn' models that prepare workers for in-demand careers while they remain employed, fostering economic mobility.
