Summary
- Wing drones deliver Walmart orders within a six-mile radius.
- Deliveries are completed in approximately 15 minutes.
- Drones carry a maximum of five pounds, ideal for small, urgent items.

Wing, an Alphabet subsidiary, has launched drone delivery services in metropolitan Atlanta in partnership with Walmart. This marks the first US metropolitan area outside of Texas to receive this service, positioning Wing in a competitive market. The drones operate from a 'nest' located at participating Walmart Supercenters, delivering small orders within a six-mile radius.
Orders placed through the Wing app are typically delivered within 15 minutes, with drone flight times around five minutes. These autonomous drones fly beyond visual line of sight, monitored by certified pilots. They are designed to carry up to five pounds, making them ideal for urgent, small-item needs like medications or diapers.
While Wing has FAA certification for commercial drone delivery, expansion is subject to regulations and community acceptance. Current operations exclude dense urban centers, focusing on suburban areas. Future expansions are planned for Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa.
