Vedanta Launches New Alloys for Lighter, Stronger Cars

Vedanta Aluminium has launched two new advanced alloys, the Copper-Doped Alloy and the Vedanta Foundry Alloy (VFA), specifically for the automotive sector. The Copper-Doped Alloy is designed for high-performance engine and powertrain components, offering increased durability and wear resistance. The VFA, developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi, provides a significant advantage in lightweighting combined with enhanced strength, making it suitable for both conventional and electric vehicles.
These new materials address the automotive industry's growing need for vehicles that are lighter, more efficient, and more resilient. Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, highlighted that these advanced, India-made metals meet world-class performance benchmarks, reinforcing the 'Make in India' initiative. The company is also expanding its capacity, aiming to become the world's largest primary billet producer with a capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per annum upon completion of its BALCO plant expansion in Korba, Chhattisgarh.
Vedanta Aluminium is already India's largest producer of Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) with a capacity of 380,000 tonnes per annum. Its automotive portfolio includes a range of PFA products used in various car parts such as alloy wheels and engine components, alongside specialized billets for HVAC and crash-resistant applications.
