Amul Milk Supply Restored to 5,500 Children
24 Sep
Summary
- Milk supply resumed for 5,500 children in Vadodara after a week-long halt.
- Vadodara Municipal Corporation cleared pending payments to Amul to resolve the dispute.
- Anganwadi nutrition program includes milk, fruits, and diverse cooked meals.

Milk supply to approximately 5,500 children across 400 Vadodara anganwadis resumed on Thursday, following a week-long suspension. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) expedited pending payments to Amul on Wednesday, resolving a payment dispute that began on September 17. This ensures children aged six months to six years continue to receive their daily 100ml of fortified milk.
The disruption had affected the supplementary nutrition program, a critical component for many families. Anganwadis are now fully supplied, with milk being served alongside meals prepared according to a weekly nutrition plan under the Poshan Abhiyan. This plan includes items like 'sukhdi', fruits, and various vegetable and pulse dishes.
Officials stated that the VMC's payment was made to prevent further delays. The issue arose from a mismatch in Amul's billing cycle and the administration's payment process, leading to an exhausted credit balance. The VMC is reviewing its finances to prevent future disruptions to this essential service.
