US Halts Empire Wind 1 Over Security Concerns

Norwegian energy group Equinor has confirmed it is adhering to a stop work order issued by the U.S. Department of the Interior concerning its Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project. This suspension stems from national security concerns, impacting a crucial renewable energy initiative.

The project, situated off the New York coast, possessed an 810-megawatt capacity, capable of energizing 500,000 homes. By September 30, 2025, over 60% of its development was reportedly finished.
