8 May
Summary
- InstaHelp's net loss reached Rs 161 crore in March quarter.
- Revenue grew 43% to Rs 425.5 crore, but expenses rose.
- Company prioritizes aggressive expansion over short-term profit.

Urban Company's aggressive investment in its InstaHelp service, an on-demand domestic help vertical, resulted in a substantial increase in net losses for the March quarter. The company's net loss climbed to Rs 161 crore, a 57-fold increase from Rs 2.8 crore in the same period last year. This surge in losses is attributed to heavy spending aimed at scaling the InstaHelp segment, which achieved Rs 40 crore in net transaction value (NTV) by the end of the March quarter.
Despite the financial implications, Urban Company reported a 43% year-on-year rise in revenue from operations, reaching Rs 425.5 crore. Co-founder and CEO Abhiraj Singh Bhal stated that InstaHelp is the company's most aggressive investment and that they are prioritizing densification, market coverage, and partner onboarding. The company is prepared to fund this growth phase, provided key performance indicators like consumer retention and order frequency remain positive.
The expansion of InstaHelp occurred amidst intensifying competition, with rivals like Snabbit and Pronto also seeing significant booking numbers. Urban Company's total NTV for the quarter was Rs 1,148 crore, a 42% increase. The company views InstaHelp as a strategically important vertical and is investing ahead of the curve to secure its market position.
