Summary
- Beer industry to invest Rs 5,500 crore in Uttar Pradesh.
- Investment to create greenfield units and ancillary facilities.
- New excise policy lauded for transparency and growth focus.

The brewing industry is poised to invest approximately Rs 5,500 crore in Uttar Pradesh within the next three years. This investment will facilitate the establishment of greenfield units and their ancillaries, marking a significant boost for the state's economy. The Brewers' Association of India (BAI), representing major companies like United Breweries, ABInBev, and Carlsberg, has lauded the state government's recently announced excise policy for 2026-27.
BAI Director General Vinod Giri stated that the investment will encompass two greenfield breweries, two major aluminum can production plants, and several glass production units, totaling Rs 5,500 crore. Plans for malting and paper box units are also in development, promising substantial job creation. The new excise policy has been praised for enhancing transparency in licensing and approvals, while offering clarity in distribution and taxation.
The policy's balanced approach, which keeps beer taxes stable while slightly increasing spirits prices, is expected to encourage consumption of lower-alcohol beverages like beer without impacting state revenue. This calibrated strategy aims to foster a growth-oriented environment for the beer industry, with North India, including Uttar Pradesh, showing high demand.
