Affordable Housing Near UNT Dallas Set for $19M Boost

A new 210-unit affordable housing project, The Heights at UNT Station, is slated for development at 1201 E. Wheatland Rd. in Dallas. The estimated cost for this nearly 255,000-square-foot endeavor is $19 million. Construction is anticipated to commence in January and conclude by late June 2028.
The development is situated approximately one mile south of the University of North Texas at Dallas campus. Although the university states no direct connection to the project, the proximity could benefit students seeking housing, as UNT Dallas notes limited on-campus options. The project was previously before the Dallas City Council in February 2025, where it gained support for four percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.
Another substantial affordable housing initiative, a 360-unit project named University Hills, is also progressing nearby at the corner of South Lancaster Road and East Wheatland Road. This development will feature a variety of floor plans, including one, two, and three-bedroom options, further addressing housing needs in the southern Dallas area.
