United Airlines is significantly expanding its international network, introducing 10 new destinations and 13 new nonstop routes scheduled for 2027. Nine of the newly added destinations are in Europe, with flights originating from Newark Liberty International Airport or Washington Dulles. Additionally, Okinawa, Japan, will receive new nonstop service from San Francisco. Notably, eight of these ten European destinations will not have direct service from any other U.S. airline, positioning United uniquely.
New destinations include Ibiza and Valencia in Spain, Marseille and Toulouse in France, Ljubljana in Slovenia, Luxembourg City, Terceira in Portugal's Azores, Olbia in Sardinia, Catania in Sicily, and Okinawa, Japan. To service these 'long and thin' routes efficiently, United will deploy its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft. This specialized, long-range, single-aisle plane can carry approximately 200 passengers, making it suitable for routes that may not support larger aircraft.
