Cobham Mansions: Britain's Highest Gas Bills Revealed
3 Apr
Summary
- Cobham's Fairmile Court has Britain's highest average gas bills at £3,596.
- Large detached homes contribute to significantly higher energy costs.
- Energy consultancy predicts typical household bills could rise by £332 in July.

The most expensive annual gas bills in Britain are found in an exclusive gated community in Cobham, Surrey. Residents at Fairmile Court typically pay £3,596 for gas each year, significantly higher than the national average. This is largely due to the substantial size of the properties, with average homes in this area consuming nearly 63,000kWh of gas annually.
Analysis reveals that eight of the top ten streets with the highest gas bills are located in London and Surrey. Other areas experiencing high costs include Holland Park in London and Esher in Surrey. Scotland's highest average gas bills are on Elphinstone Road in Glasgow, and in Wales, Maes Deri in Deeside faces the highest charges.
Looking ahead, typical annual household energy bills could increase by £332 in July, according to energy consultancy Cornwall Insight. This projection is influenced by rising gas and oil prices. Energy regulator Ofgem will set the price cap for July to September on May 27, based on wholesale prices from March, April, and May.
Customers on fixed energy deals are currently protected from price hikes. However, those on standard variable tariffs could experience substantial increases if the price cap rises as predicted. Experts advise that fixing energy rates now is the best strategy to avoid future price hikes, with several tariffs still available.
