8 Mar
Summary
- Lloyds Bank branch in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, is the last to close.
- A new banking hub has opened at the Post Office for face-to-face services.
- Customer usage has shifted significantly to mobile and internet banking.

The final bank branch in Tunstall, a town in Stoke-on-Trent, ceased operations on Monday, March 8, 2026. Lloyds Bank's branch in Tunstall was the last single bank branch in the area, following earlier closures of Barclays, Natwest, and Cooperative Bank within the last nine years. This closure signifies a substantial shift in how residents access financial services.
Lloyds Bank stated that the decision was based on a review showing a "regular monthly branch usage" of 1,081 customers, with 81% of customers already utilizing other branches or internet banking. The bank emphasized that most customers now prefer its mobile banking app, internet banking, and phone services.
In response to the closure, a new banking hub has been established at the Post Office on Tunstall High Street. This facility, operated by Cash Access UK, offers face-to-face services from different banks on specific days. Natwest operates on Wednesdays, Barclays on Thursdays, Halifax on Tuesdays, and Lloyds Bank provides services on Mondays.
Local traders have expressed concerns about the potential reduction in footfall on the High Street, although they acknowledge the banking hub as a partial solution. Stoke-on-Trent North MP David Williams welcomed the banking hub, stating it was crucial for residents and small businesses who should not have to travel far for basic banking.
The banking hub at the Post Office is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00. Services include cash and cheque deposits, withdrawals, bill payments, and arranging appointments with community bankers for more complex inquiries. This initiative aims to ensure continued access to in-person banking for those who need it.
