New Homes Planned for Trowell Amid Resident Flood Fears
26 Jul
Summary
- Peveril Homes seeks approval for 60 new dwellings on former mining land.
- Concerns raised over potential flooding and increased traffic congestion.
- Developers propose 45% of new homes to be affordable housing units.

Plans for sixty new homes have been submitted to Broxtowe Borough Council by housing developer Peveril Homes. The proposed site is located on land near Stapleford Road in Trowell, which was formerly an open-cast coal mine. If approved, the development would feature a variety of one to four-bedroom properties across two storeys, intended to appeal to a broad range of buyers including families and first-time purchasers.
Peveril Homes has also committed to making 45% of the new properties affordable housing. Access to the development would be from Stapleford Road. This proposal follows an earlier approval for a new cricket pitch and facilities on nearby land to the east.
Despite the development plans, some Trowell residents have expressed strong reservations. Concerns have been raised about the area's history of flooding, particularly after Storm Babet in October 2023, which caused internal flooding in twenty-five homes. Residents also fear that the additional housing will lead to busier roads and place further strain on local GP services, with one long-term resident questioning the necessity of further development in the village.
