Israeli startup Trigo, which develops technology for cashier-free retail experiences, has successfully raised $100 million in new funding. This investment will fuel the expansion of its operations and its partnerships with prominent grocery retailers worldwide, including Tesco and REWE. The company's technology allows for "just walk out" shopping, similar to Amazon Go stores, and focuses on enhancing the in-store experience for customers.
Trigo's innovative approach utilizes computer vision, machine learning, and AI to create autonomous checkout systems. Beyond just enabling customers to walk out without traditional checkout lines, Trigo also provides inventory management solutions. The upcoming launch of "StoreOS" is set to further integrate these tools with analytics and marketing, aiming to bridge the gap between physical and online retail operations for brick-and-mortar stores.
This significant funding round was co-led by Singapore's Temasek and 83North, with participation from SAP and existing investors. Trigo's technology, particularly its "EasyOut" solution, is designed to reduce operational overhead for retailers by minimizing inefficiencies related to staffing, theft, and real estate costs. The company asserts that its full-store system offers superior shopper experience and retailer efficiencies compared to cart-based sensor systems.
The company's CEO highlighted that the current economic climate, marked by inflation and supply chain issues, actually increases the demand for efficient inventory management. Trigo's solutions are projected to offer a return on investment within 18 months, bolstering grocery retailers' profit margins. While currently focused on large-format supermarkets, Trigo plans to expand into pharmacies and quick-service restaurants, further integrating online and offline retail.
