Trichy Corporation has approved Rs 67 lakh for the redevelopment and upgrade of 10 Amma canteens. This initiative follows a detailed survey of the state-run subsidised food outlets. The planned renovations will address structural needs, enhance kitchen and dining facilities, and provide new equipment.
The upgrade aims to improve the operational efficiency and user experience at these canteens. Self-help group workers who manage the outlets have also raised infrastructure concerns, including the need for better sanitation and water facilities, which will be addressed.
Serving around 2,000 people on weekdays, these 11 canteens offer breakfast at Re 1 and Rs 5, and lunch options between Rs 3 and Rs 5. The redevelopment works, which will begin shortly, are expected to be completed within a month.
