Treasury Downplays AI Debt Yield Concerns
29 Oct
Summary
- Treasury Secretary Bessent monitors AI financing but sees no issues.
- He views neoclouds as a small part of the AI ecosystem.
- Recent economic growth supports confidence in Fed policy decisions.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has indicated that his department is closely monitoring financing for the artificial intelligence sector but downplayed recent concerns. He noted that "neoclouds," which provide AI infrastructure rentals, represent a small portion of the overall ecosystem. Bessent stated that financing for AI initiatives is still being successfully obtained, with some companies opting for equity financing.
Speaking on Wednesday, Bessent also reaffirmed his and President Trump's trust in Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh. Following the Federal Reserve's decision to hold interest rates steady, Bessent commented that further rate increases might not necessarily be a policy mistake, given the robust economic growth. He encouraged policymakers to remain open-minded about the potential for energy shocks to inflation to be transitory.
Yields on US debt have recently declined from multi-decade highs, though the benchmark 10-year rate remains above 5%. Bessent suggested a link between these yields and past Federal Reserve decisions on interest rates. He expressed respect for the bond market's role in monetary policy, echoing sentiments from Chair Warsh regarding its tightening effect.
