Trader Joe's $7.4M Settlement: Are You Owed Money?
17 Apr
Summary
- Lawsuit alleges Trader Joe's printed too much card info on receipts.
- Settlement includes customers from March 2019 to July 2019.
- Eligible customers could receive an estimated $102.45 payout.

A potential $7.4 million settlement may offer payouts to certain Trader Joe's customers. This stems from a 2019 class action lawsuit alleging violations of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA).
The lawsuit claimed that some Trader Joe's store receipts improperly displayed the first six and last four digits of customer card numbers. Such printing is prohibited under FACTA, which limits printed digits to the last five to prevent identity theft.
Trader Joe's denies any wrongdoing, stating no customers have reported identity theft related to these allegations. However, the company agreed to settle to avoid further legal battles. The settlement class comprises customers who purchased items using a credit or debit card between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, and received a receipt showing more than the last five digits of their card number.
Customers who believe they are eligible can submit a claim until June 9. Each claimant is estimated to receive approximately $102.45, depending on the final number of claims. A court hearing is scheduled for August to approve the settlement.
