Private-markets firm TPG is leveraging significant capital, with over $72.8 billion in dry powder, to navigate current market volatility. In the recent quarter, TPG successfully raised more than $10 billion and deployed $14.4 billion, demonstrating its readiness to invest.
CEO Jon Winkelried expressed optimism, calling the current environment "an opportunity" and noting that TPG has historically achieved its best performance during difficult economic periods. This strategic deployment comes as the industry faces AI disruption, private-credit stress, and geopolitical conflicts.
TPG reported strong exit performance, including the $4.75 billion sale of Intersect Power and Cencora's $7.4 billion acquisition of OneOncology, both completed at premiums. Overall investment sales reached approximately $8.7 billion in the quarter.
While the firm's private equity portfolio value saw a slight decline, credit investments remained robust with a 2.2% appreciation. TPG manages $306.2 billion in assets, with credit and TPG Capital being its largest platforms.
Despite a swing to a $1.5 million net loss for the quarter and a decrease in revenue, TPG's after-tax distributable earnings rose nearly 51% to $281.6 million, and fee-related earnings exceeded $1 billion over the past 12 months.
