Tesla Roars Back in Europe Amidst Shifting Politics

Tesla is making a notable comeback in Europe, reversing a previous sales downturn. The company announced plans to hire an additional 1,000 workers at its Gigafactory near Berlin, aiming to increase weekly production to 7,500 vehicles by October 2026. This follows a recent expansion, signaling a strong push to ramp up manufacturing capacity.

This production increase is occurring as Tesla registrations in Europe have surged by 57% between January and May 2026 compared to the same period last year. This rebound is attributed to factors such as rising fuel costs and new government incentives for zero-emission vehicles across the continent.

The renewed interest in EVs in Europe also coincides with a broader geopolitical push for technological independence. European leaders are increasingly focused on reducing reliance on U.S. technology firms, with initiatives aimed at strengthening the bloc's digital autonomy in areas like semiconductors and AI.
