Tesla Recalls Millions in China Over Safety Fixes

Tesla will implement significant software fixes for millions of vehicles in China, marking the automaker's largest recall in the market. Effective September 25, approximately 2.98 million China-made and imported Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles are subject to recall. This measure is due to concerns that emergency door release handles may be difficult to identify, potentially impacting escape or rescue efforts post-crash and electrical failure.

As a remedy, Tesla will provide warning labels and an over-the-air (OTA) update designed to lower vehicle windows automatically after a collision. In a separate action, an immediate recall affects 2.74 million China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. This recall involves an OTA software update aimed at improving driver-attention monitoring systems when assisted steering and other driver-assistance functions are active, thereby reducing collision risks for drivers who might not respond promptly.
