A colossal hole, approximately 200 metres long and 37 metres wide, is being excavated at Sydney's Olympic Park for the Metro West line. This oversized station box will accommodate four platforms, a first for Sydney's expanding metro network, enabling rapid passenger dispersal after major events. The design specifically caters to surges of up to 26,000 people.
Scheduled to open in 2032, the new station will transform travel between Olympic Park and the CBD, with trips to Hunter Street taking just 15 minutes. For those heading west, a five-minute train ride to Parramatta will be available. This significant infrastructure upgrade is part of the $29 billion Metro West project, aimed at improving connectivity across the city.
Construction is progressing, with rail installation underway in the tunnels. The Metro West line, spanning 24 kilometres, will feature 16 trains operating on 60 kilometres of track. The project is expected to boost housing development around its stations, contributing to urban revitalisation.
