Medical technology company Stryker Corp. is grappling with a significant cyberattack that has disrupted its global operations. The breach, which began around midnight US Eastern time, has rendered many systems offline, and the company has indicated that the timeline for a full restoration is not yet known.
A pro-Iranian digital activist group, Handala, has claimed responsibility for the cyberattack, stating it was retaliation for a US bombing. This claim, if verified, would represent a major cyber disruption of an American organization. Stryker has confirmed a "global network disruption to our Microsoft environment" but stated they have no indication of ransomware or malware and believe the incident is contained.
Employees across the globe have been unable to work and advised to avoid connecting to any company networks. Some employees have reportedly had data wiped from their devices, with up to 95% of computers in some offices affected. Stryker, a major manufacturer of medical devices with annual revenues of approximately $25 billion, saw its shares fall following the announcement of the breach.
