Stratford Foodbank Faces 70% Demand Surge
8 Apr
Summary
- Demand for food bank services increased by 70% since the pandemic.
- Stratford Foodbank is relocating to a larger community hub.
- National food parcel distribution rose 45% from 2019 to 2025.
Stratford-Upon-Avon Foodbank is preparing for a significant relocation to a larger facility at the Precision Business Centre on Masons Road. This move, anticipated by mid-April, will establish a new community hub, consolidating warehouse, distribution, and support services under one roof. The new site is scheduled to open for clients by June 2026, aiming to better serve the escalating demand in Stratford and surrounding villages.
The food bank has reported a 70% increase in demand for its services compared to pre-pandemic levels. This surge mirrors a national trend, where the Trussell Trust distributed 2.6 million food parcels in 2025, a 45% rise from 2019 figures. Fundraising Officer Isla Stroyen noted the challenge of hidden rural poverty and the stigma associated with seeking help.
Stroyen emphasized that while emergency food parcels are a temporary solution, the food bank's long-term goal is to address the root causes of poverty. The new hub is designed to offer a warm welcome and practical support, aiming to help clients achieve long-term independence and reduce their reliance on the food bank. The expansion underscores the ongoing need for such services in the community.
