Summary
- A Rs 40 crore multi-level parking facility is proposed for Srirangam.
- The project aims to address the parking shortage for temple devotees.
- A height restriction poses a design challenge for the proposed facility.

Trichy corporation has submitted a proposal to the state government for a multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility in Srirangam, a project estimated to cost Rs 40 crore. This initiative is primarily intended to serve the large number of devotees who visit the Ranganathaswamy temple. The proposed MLCP is planned to be implemented under a public-private partnership model on a 10,000sqft corporation-owned plot near the rajagopuram.
The project faces a significant design hurdle: the site is located within a height restriction zone due to its proximity to the temple's rajagopuram. This limits the building height to nine metres, making the incorporation of a driveway and necessary setback areas a complex challenge for engineers. The state government is expected to make a decision on the proposal within the next week.
Corporation officials have outlined a plan for a two-floor facility with a basement. The ground, first, and second floors are each projected to accommodate 25 cars, while the basement will be designated for parking approximately 120 two-wheelers. Alternative parking options exist near Amma Mandapam and Yatri Nivas, but these would necessitate battery-powered shuttles to transport devotees to and from the temple complex.
