SpiceJet Recovers Capacity with Damp Leased Aircraft
23 Jul
Summary
- SpiceJet acquired three Airbus A320 aircraft via damp lease.
- New aircraft will bolster domestic network and market share.
- Airline aims to expand fleet further in the coming months.

SpiceJet has strengthened its fleet by inducting three Airbus A320 aircraft through damp lease arrangements. Procured from Cambodia's Sky Angkor Air, these aircraft average 15 years in age and have arrived in India. They are configured in an all-economy class layout with 180 seats.
The induction is a strategic move to rebuild SpiceJet's capacity and bolster its domestic network. The airline aims to expand its services, enhance connectivity on key routes, and introduce new offerings, thereby recovering lost market share. The DGCA reported SpiceJet's market share dropped to 2.5% in May from 3.4% in April.
This fleet expansion follows the recent exit of 16 wet-leased aircraft, which impacted capacity due to factors like seasonal demand and high operating costs. SpiceJet is actively in talks with lessors for additional aircraft to further its fleet expansion plans in the upcoming months.
