Summary
- SpaceX stock experienced significant volatility post-IPO.
- AI and connectivity divisions are key growth drivers.
- Company is not currently profitable despite high valuation.

Space Exploration Technologies (SPCX) has presented investors with a volatile stock performance since its June IPO. Initially trading at $150, the stock briefly surged over $225 before dropping to under $110 within a month. It has since stabilized around $150 per share. However, most investors are looking beyond short-term fluctuations, focusing on the company's long-term potential.
SpaceX's business model extends significantly beyond its renowned launch services. Its AI division, which includes xAI and the Grok AI model, is its fastest-growing segment, with revenue increasing by 213% in the recent quarter. The connectivity division, primarily the Starlink satellite broadband service, is also a critical growth engine, providing internet access to underserved areas.
Despite these growth avenues, SpaceX is not currently profitable. Projections suggest a challenging path to its targeted 45% net income margin, especially as the space division may not be profitable by 2030. Analysts estimate $44.8 billion in revenue for the current year, with ambitious growth forecasts predicting $172 billion in revenue and $51.6 billion in profits by 2030, assuming a 40% compound annual growth rate and a 30% profit margin.
This projected valuation implies a market capitalization of $1.5 trillion. Given the aggressive growth assumptions, the stock may already be fully valued. A $10,000 investment under these projections could potentially decrease in value to around $7,500, suggesting that SpaceX might be overvalued for current investors.
