Space Stocks Tumble: Is Rocket Lab or SpaceX a Better Bet?
30 Jul
Summary
- SpaceX and Rocket Lab stocks have significantly decreased from recent highs.
- Both companies face immense growth opportunities with projected satellite launches.
- SpaceX leads in launch services and satellite internet, while Rocket Lab is expanding.

The valuations of some space stocks are correcting, leading to significant drops for companies like Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) and Rocket Lab. SpaceX has seen its stock decrease by approximately 40% since its IPO in June, while Rocket Lab has fallen nearly 60% from its 52-week high around the same period.
Despite these market adjustments, substantial growth prospects lie ahead for both companies. The demand for launch services is soaring, with projections of one million satellites needing launch, a dramatic increase from the current 15,000 active satellites. SpaceX generated $4 billion in revenue last year and is developing its Starship rocket. Rocket Lab reported $199 million in launch revenue for 2025 and plans to introduce its Neutron rocket soon.
Both SpaceX and Rocket Lab are also pursuing opportunities with their own satellite constellations. SpaceX's Starlink internet service generated $11.4 billion in revenue for 2025 and is experiencing 50% year-over-year growth. Rocket Lab aims to build a similar integrated service, notably through its recent $8 billion acquisition of Iridium, though this is still in the early stages compared to SpaceX's current offerings.
Both companies are founder-led. Rocket Lab was established in New Zealand by Peter Beck, who has a two-decade focus on building launch success despite considerable odds.
