Soybean Prices Soar Amidst Harvest Delays
19 Sep
Summary
- Soybean futures traded higher, with prices up 2 to 4 cents.
- Heavy rains are expected to impede harvest progress in several key states.
- Soybean sales for 2026/27 nearly doubled compared to last year.

Soybean futures saw a midday increase, with contracts trading 2 to 4 cents higher. The national average cash soybean price rose by 2 cents to $12.64 ¾. This positive movement in soybean prices is occurring concurrently with forecasts from NOAA predicting heavy rainfall across several Midwestern states, including South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. These anticipated rains are likely to restrict the pace of early harvest activities.
Further bolstering the market sentiment, the USDA's recent Export Sales report revealed substantial activity for the 2026/27 marketing year. Soybean sales for this period reached 1.7 million metric tons in the week ending September 10, a figure nearly double that of the same week in the prior year and within analysts' expectations. Soybean meal bookings were also reported, totaling 210,507 metric tons, while soybean oil saw sales of 4,372 metric tons for the 2026/27 period.
