Summary
- Sony faces a $7.85 million settlement for digital game sales.
- Lawsuit alleges Sony monopolized the digital game market.
- Eligible customers may receive funds in their PSN accounts.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is involved in a proposed $7.85 million class-action settlement, Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment. The lawsuit alleged that Sony unlawfully monopolized the market for digital games by discontinuing game-specific vouchers, which previously allowed purchases from alternative retailers. This action, according to the suit, led to consumers paying inflated prices on the PlayStation Store.
The settlement was preliminarily approved in April, following earlier rejections in 2024 and July 2025. A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026, to confirm the settlement amount and finalize the distribution plan. While Sony denies wrongdoing, eligible customers who purchased digital games during the relevant period could receive compensation.
Compensation will be automatically added to eligible customers' PlayStation Network account wallets after the final approval hearing. Gamers with deactivated accounts can apply for cash payments by emailing qualifying purchase information. The deadline to opt out of the settlement passed on July 2, meaning most affected individuals are now part of the class and will not be able to sue Sony separately.
Up to 25% of the $7.85 million will cover administrative costs and attorney fees. The remaining funds will be distributed equally among settlement class members, with individual payouts expected to be a few dollars per account.
