South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix announced robust third-quarter earnings, with operating profit soaring 632.1% compared to the previous year. Revenue also saw a significant increase of 327.9% year-on-year.
These results substantially exceeded market expectations, with revenue reaching 104.62 trillion won against 98.34 trillion won anticipated. Operating profit stood at 83.33 trillion won, surpassing the forecasted 76.72 trillion won.
SK Hynix's strong performance is largely attributed to its pivotal role as a supplier of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to Nvidia. This positions the company as a key beneficiary of the global expansion in AI infrastructure and data center investments.
In recent strategic moves, SK Hynix revealed plans to repurchase and cancel 40 trillion won worth of its shares. Furthermore, the company aims to allocate over 50% of its cumulative free cash flow between 2025 and 2027 towards shareholder returns.
The company's U.S. subsidiary, Solidigm, has paused its review of potential pre-IPO fundraising and IPO options due to prevailing market volatility and share price trends. SK Hynix continues to evaluate investment timing and financing for Solidigm's growth.
