Singapore has been ranked as the world's most competitive economy for 2026 by IMD. The city-state achieved a normalized score of 100, placing it ahead of Hong Kong and Switzerland, which secured second and third place respectively. Taiwan followed in fourth.
This year's ranking sees Asia represented by three of the top five most competitive economies. European countries collectively hold five of the top ten spots, underscoring a diverse global economic performance. Vietnam has been newly added to the ranking this year.
Singapore's rise to the top was significantly boosted by its improved business efficiency, which now ranks first. This factor, combined with its overall performance across economic factors, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure, allowed it to reclaim the premier position.
