Wheel Works Brewing Co. is preparing for its grand opening on September 15th, breathing new life into a historic building in Shortsville, Ontario County. This ambitious project is transforming a crumbling structure, once a hub for manufacturing wheels for horse-and-buggies and then Pioneer Thresher Co., into a vibrant craft brewery.
Owned by Ken Johnson and Jeff Roberge, the brewery boasts Nick Lord, formerly of Other Half Brewing Co., as its head brewer. They plan to feature 10 to 12 unique beers on tap, alongside New York wines and ciders, with stronger spirits to follow once liquor licensing is secured. The menu will focus on 'pub gourmet' fare, with owners emphasizing a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
The revitalized venue at 1755 Pioneer Road can accommodate 362 patrons and retains many original features like salvaged beams and red brick. Future plans include indoor and outdoor games, fire pits by the Canandaigua Outlet, and live music. Community interest is high, with locals expressing excitement over the building's public reuse and the creation of a new destination for craft beer and entertainment.
