SGB Redemption Today: Massive 228% Gains Realized

The Reserve Bank of India has announced the redemption price, which is calculated based on the average closing gold prices of the preceding three working days.
The premature redemption price for this SGB tranche has been fixed at Rs 15,334 per unit. This value is derived from the simple average of gold prices on September 2, 3, and 4, 2026. The SGBs were initially issued at Rs 4,682 per gram for online purchases and Rs 4,732 per gram for offline purchases.
This redemption marks a significant return for investors, yielding an absolute simple return of nearly 228%. Consequently, an initial investment of Rs 1 lakh in this SGB series would now be worth close to Rs 3.28 lakh, not including any interest earned. SGBs are government securities that serve as an alternative to holding physical gold.
