Seplat Strike Suspended: Oil Output Resumes
4 Apr
Summary
- Seplat workers suspended strike action after written pay rise commitments.
- Negotiations for a 2026 collective bargaining agreement will continue.
- Seplat targets output of up to 155,000 barrels of oil equivalent daily.

Workers at Seplat Energy, Nigeria's leading independent oil and gas producer, have suspended industrial action. The strike, which began on Friday due to stalled wage negotiations, was called off after the company provided written assurances on pay increases. This development alleviates concerns over oil and gas output amid rising global prices.
Negotiations between the workers' union, PENGASSAN, and Seplat resumed, leading to the suspension. The union has directed its members to immediately cease industrial action, although talks concerning a 2026 collective bargaining agreement are ongoing. The aim is to finalize all outstanding matters by April 13.
Seplat spokesperson confirmed the suspension, stating that operations are recommencing across various locations. The company aims for an output of up to 155,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day this year, an increase from last year's average, reinforcing its role as a major domestic gas supplier.
