SECL Launches India's First Paste Filling Project for Safer, Greener Mining

This project, which was initiated on November 11, 2025, is expected to produce around 8.4 million tonnes of coal over the next 25 years.
The implementation of this underground mining technology is a crucial step towards promoting safe and eco-friendly mining practices. SECL, which operates coal mines in the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, has signed a ₹7,040 crore agreement with TMC Mineral Resources to undertake large-scale coal production using the paste fill technology at the Singhali mine.
This innovative approach to underground mining is set to revolutionize the industry, as it aims to enhance safety and minimize the environmental impact of coal extraction. The paste filling technology, which involves the use of a specialized mixture to fill the voids left behind after coal removal, is expected to significantly improve the stability and security of the underground operations.
