Parcel Locker Ousted From Scottish Conservation Village
12 Jan
Summary
- InPost locker removed from Denholm, a Scottish Borders conservation village.
- Planners deemed the locker a 'conspicuous and incongruous feature'.
- Company ordered to remove the locker after retrospective planning refusal.

An InPost parcel locker has been ordered for removal from Denholm, a conservation village located between Jedburgh and Hawick in the Scottish Borders. The company had placed the 24-hour locker, featuring CCTV and sensor lighting, outside the Old Bakery last year without initial planning permission.
Community leaders and villagers objected to the locker, citing its negative impact on the village's character. Scottish Borders Council's assistant planning officer stated the locker was a 'conspicuous and incongruous feature' unsuitable for the prominent conservation area location. Despite InPost's claims of community and environmental benefits, permission was refused.
The council acknowledged the public benefit but concluded the locker's positioning and materials were 'harmful to the character and appearance of the conservation area.' InPost UK, which operates over 12,000 lockers nationwide, has the option to lodge an appeal.
