Milwaukee's Famous Beer Brews Final Batch
18 May
Summary
- Schlitz beer production is ending after 175 years.
- A final 80-barrel batch will be brewed on May 23.
- The beer was once America's largest brewer.

The production of Schlitz beer, a beverage that once held the title of America's largest brewer, is concluding after 175 years. This marks the end of an era for the iconic Milwaukee brand, which began as a tavern brewery in 1849.
Kirby Nelson of Wisconsin Brewing Co. will produce a final 80-barrel batch on Saturday, May 23, using the company's 1948 specifications to honor its "glory days." This brew is described as a "love letter to our state" by Nelson.
Pre-orders for this commemorative batch will open on May 23 via Wisconsin Brewing Co.'s website, with the beer becoming available to the public on June 27. A celebratory event is also planned for that same day.
Schlitz was once a dominant force, playing a significant role in Milwaukee's identity and economy. Despite a relaunch in 2008 by Pabst Brewing Co., its presence had diminished over the years, leading to this final production run.
