California Climate Credit Eases Summer Bills

Southern California Edison (SCE) customers facing soaring temperatures and high air conditioning use will see financial relief on their upcoming bills. The utility announced that eligible customers will receive a total credit of $72, applied in two $36 installments. The first credit is scheduled for August, with the second following in September, timed to coincide with the peak of summer energy consumption.

This climate credit is funded by California's Cap-and-Invest program. This program mandates that significant emitters of greenhouse gases must purchase carbon pollution allowances. The revenues generated are then channeled back to utility customers to offset energy costs. State regulators moved the credit's distribution to the summer months specifically to address the increased financial burden from air conditioning needs during this period.
