Richard Hutto, the Executive Director of SC Housing, will retire on January 2, 2026, marking the end of a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years with the agency. His departure follows a significant period of growth and achievement for South Carolina's affordable housing initiatives.
Under Hutto's leadership, SC Housing has seen remarkable success. The agency reported record-breaking figures in financial assistance for first-time homebuyers, disbursing $465 million to 1,990 buyers in the last fiscal year, a substantial increase from previous years. Additionally, Hutto spearheaded a new program to encourage the development of 130 affordable housing units, addressing the state's housing supply needs.
Prior to leading the agency since 2023, Hutto held various roles at SC Housing, including deputy director and financial underwriter. As he steps down, the agency's board has affirmed that SC Housing is on "solid footing" and "financially strong." Robert Macdonald, the current chief of staff, is set to succeed Hutto as the next executive director.
