22 May
Summary
- SBI staff announce two-day strike starting May 25.
- A five-day disruption is expected due to the strike.
- Staff demand includes more employee recruitment.

State Bank of India (SBI) has alerted its over 52 crore customers about a potential disruption in services due to a two-day staff strike announced by the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation. The strike is scheduled to commence on May 25, potentially leading to a five-day halt in operations.
This extended disruption is attributed to the strike falling adjacent to a weekend, with the fourth Saturday and Sunday preceding the strike dates. Additionally, May 27 is a holiday in many states for Eid al-Adha.
Key demands from the staff include the recruitment of adequate employees, messengers, and armed guards. They also seek a change in pension fund manager options and an end to outsourcing permanent jobs, citing risks of data leaks and reputational damage. The appointment of a workmen's director to the board is also a demand.
SBI has advised customers to prefer digital banking channels like YONO and UPI, along with ATMs and customer service points, to minimize inconvenience.
