4 Feb
Summary
- New meals are low in calories, high in protein, and fiber-rich.
- Demand for high-protein options surges due to weight loss jabs.
- Range includes meals, wraps, salads, and bakery items.

Responding to a surge in demand driven by weight loss jabs, Sainsbury's has launched a new collection of high-protein and nutrient-rich meals. This "small but mighty" range is specifically designed with reduced appetites in mind, ensuring customers meet essential protein and fiber requirements.
Each meal contains fewer than 350 calories and contributes to one of the "five-a-day" fruit and vegetable portions. The supermarket observed a 57% year-on-year increase in online searches for "high protein" and a 300% rise for "high protein ready meals." The current offerings include dishes like pesto chicken tortiglioni with 35g of protein and beef bolognese tagliatelle with 33g.
Further expanding its high-protein selection, Sainsbury's also offers wraps, salads, sandwiches, porridge pots, cereals, and natural yogurts. Additionally, the supermarket plans to introduce high-protein bakery items such as tortilla wraps, flatbreads, and buttermilk pancakes in February. This product development aligns with understanding diverse customer nutritional needs and preferences.
