Summary
- Safran will invest 150 million euros in a high-tonnage hydraulic press.
- The new press aims to double forging capacity at the Gennevillers facility.
- Safran seeks to control its supply chain amidst global instability.

Safran is set to invest 150 million euros ($175 million) to install a 30,000-ton hydraulic press at its Gennevillers facility near Paris. This significant investment, expected to be operational by 2029, will double the plant's forging capacity for critical engine components.
The move is part of Safran's accelerated production ramp-up and its strategic effort to gain tighter control over its supply chain. Chief Executive Olivier Andries highlighted the need for massive investments to ensure resilience in an increasingly unstable world.
The new press will also be utilized for parts of engines currently in development for future medium-haul aircraft. This initiative addresses the persistent shortage of castings and forgings, which has been a bottleneck for aircraft manufacturers since the pandemic.
Safran also plans further investments in facilities, including a new foundry in Rennes and an expansion at another site. The company is increasing military engine production, expecting to deliver 108 engines in 2026.
