- Vostok Oil aims for 1 million bpd exports by 2030 amid sanctions.
Commercial oil exports have officially begun from Rosneft's significant Vostok Oil project, situated in Russia's Arctic region. This launch marks a pivotal moment for Moscow's strategy to enhance crude oil production. Initial exports are projected to average around 150,000 barrels per day this year, primarily drawing from existing Vankor fields.
Rosneft intends to scale up Vostok Oil's output, aiming for approximately 600,000 barrels per day by the latter half of 2027 and reaching 1 million barrels per day by 2030. The project connects thirteen fields to the Bukhta Sever terminal via a dedicated pipeline, holding an estimated 50 billion barrels of low-sulfur crude. Despite delays caused by Western sanctions and the exit of international investors, Vostok Oil remains strategically vital, offering a secure Arctic export route.
The project's debut comes as Russia seeks to regain ground in global oil production, which has been surpassed by the United States following the shale boom. Vostok Oil represents Russia's primary initiative for sustained production growth. Exports from Bukhta Sever in September included approximately 250,000 metric tons of crude across three tankers, with destinations including Asia via the Northern Sea Route.
