Agri-tech firm RuKart is set to launch its electricity-free, low-cost cold storage solution, the Subjee Cooler, in South East Asian markets this year. Targeting countries like Indonesia and Cambodia, RuKart plans to begin international shipments by February. The company aims to capitalize on rising incomes and increased attention to produce quality in these regions.
Utilizing enhanced evaporative cooling, the Subjee Cooler extends the shelf-life of fruits and vegetables for small farmers and vendors. RuKart has already sold over 3,000 units across India, with significant adoption in North East India and support from states like Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Prices for the cooler range between ₹20,000 and ₹50,000, depending on capacity.
While adoption is growing in metros and tier-1 cities with clients like Swiggy Instamart, RuKart faces challenges in transportation and skilled manpower. Initial support for the company came from IIT Bombay, with further backing from Nabard and Mumbai Angels.
