Revolution Wind Achieves Full Operation Despite Setbacks
7 Nov
Summary
- Revolution Wind project achieved commercial operations in October.
- Project faced cancelation threats from the Trump administration.
- Other offshore wind projects also experienced operational suspensions.

The 704-megawatt Revolution Wind offshore project, a 50:50 partnership with Global Infrastructure Partners, has achieved commercial operation. This milestone occurred in October, with the project now fulfilling its offtake contracts for Connecticut and Rhode Island. Revolution Wind was among several U.S. offshore wind projects that experienced a 90-day pause ordered by the Interior Department last December, citing security concerns.
This pause affected other major projects, including Dominion Energy's Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind and Ørsted's Sunrise Wind. Companies contested these security concerns, leading to court injunctions that allowed operations to resume. As of November 7, 2026, Revolution Wind and Vineyard Wind 1 have begun generating power, while Sunrise Wind has completed turbine foundation installations.
Ørsted also reported the successful commissioning of its Borkum Riffgrund 3 project in Germany. The company's total installed capacity reached 19.5 GW by the end of Q3 2026, with 1.8 GW added during that quarter. Power generation saw a 19% year-on-year increase for the quarter. Despite operational progress, Ørsted recorded impairment losses for its U.S. projects, attributed to rising long-dated U.S. interest rates, though operations remain on budget.
