Repsol Cuts Green Energy Targets Amidst Shifting Markets
20 Feb
Summary
- Repsol reduced its 2030 renewable capacity target to over 10 GW.
- Previous 2030 renewable target was 20 GW, now halved.
- Low-carbon fuel targets also significantly lowered due to demand.

Repsol, a Spanish energy group, has adjusted its medium-term goals for renewable energy capacity and low-carbon product output. The company now targets over 10 gigawatts (GW) of installed renewable capacity by 2030. This new goal represents a significant reduction from its previously announced target of 20 GW by the same year. The revision is attributed to increased development and financing costs, alongside shifts in tax incentives. Repsol's installed capacity stood at 5.8 GW at the end of 2025. The company is also scaling back its ambitions for low-carbon fuels. Production targets for biofuels have been reduced to between 1.6 and 1.8 million tons, and for biomethane to 0.7-0.8 TWh. These adjustments are in response to current demand and regulatory landscapes, especially regarding renewable hydrogen and green hydrogen development.
